The Behavior Menu allows you to define how a step interacts with your website. Steps, Launchers, and Smart Tips can all change the default behavior to accommodate different scenarios, users, and websites.

The Short Version   

Behavior allows you to personalize the process depending on the path your user takes, and decide how many times an item tries to play. Changing these settings can accommodate certain types of user behavior. You also can decide if items should re-appear. If necessary, WalkMe won’t play the item at all, or it can be skipped.

As you create items and test them before publishing, you can change the way individual steps, Smart Tips or Launchers on your Website.
  • Control a step so that it only appears for users who need it.
  • Work with elements that might disappear such as dropdown or hover menus.
  • Accommodate different types of users or process paths in the same Walk-Thru.



 How It Works

Before an item appears on screen, WalkMe will first evaluate the Segment assigned from the Segmentation Center. Behavior Options control if and when an item should be played. Once the segment is confirmed as true, WalkMe will check if there are any settings that would prevent a step from playing. Once an item plays, such as a Launcher or a Smart Tip Set, Behavior Options can make the item reappear if the element, such as a hover menu closes.
 
Walk-Thru Behavior Settings

 
  • Step Play Rule: Define when a step will play. If the rule you set is met, the step will play. If the rule is false, the step will be skipped.
     

     
  • Sticky: Use with a step that is attached to an element that might disappear from the screen; for example, in hover menus or when the page might be refreshed but the step needs to stay in place. If Sticky is enabled, WalkMe will keep searching for the element.
     

     
  • Skippable: Skip the step and keep playing the Walk-Thru even if the element disappears; for example, use Skippable when a page frequently refreshes or a step is located in a hover menu so the element may or may not be found.
     

     
  • Self Executing:
    A self-executing step executes its own trigger without waiting for user input. A Self executing step can click, enter text, hover over elements, or select an option from a drop down menu. For example, if you require data entry in a specific format use the Text Trigger to add the template to the field. Use self executing steps to automate repetitive steps, or navigate to different parts of your site in a process. The simulated reaction time sets the delay between when the step appears and when it self executes.
     
 Launcher and Smart Tip Behavior Settings
  • Pin: After displaying the Launcher for the first time, WalkMe will stop re-checking for the element on screen.
  • Strong Pin: The Strong Pin will display the Launcher even if its selected element disappears from the page and reappears again, such as a hover menu. A Strong Pin is similar to the Sticky setting for a step. Note: if you are pinning a Launcher, it is recommended to use jQuery)
  • Segmentation evaluation frequency: Before WalkMe checks for an element or jQuery selector, WalkMe will always check the Segments assigned in the Segmentation Center.
