Install the WalkMe Editor

The WalkMe Editor is used for building, managing, and publishing Smart Walk-Thrus and WalkMe Apps. Once WalkMe is downloaded, simply install it on your computer. The Editor is a desktop application that allows you build on the world’s most popular browsers (Chrome, IE, and Firefox*).
 
*Firefox support in Nov. 2017.

Once the Editor is installed on your computer, simply download the Extension to your selected Browser to start building.

Installation Process

Getting started with the WalkMe Editor is a 3 step process
  1.  Download and Install the desktop application (Mac or PC)
  2. Create an Editor account
  3. Download and Install the Extension into your browser

1A. Download and Install WalkMe on PC

  1. Open www.walkme.com/download. The .exe file will download
  2. From your computer, double-click downloaded .exe application. WalkMe Setup wizard will appear.  When installation is complete, Editor will open
  3. Continue to Create an Editor Account

1B. Download and Install WalkMe on Mac

  1. Open www.walkme.com/download. The .dmg file will download
  2. From your computer, double-click downloaded .dmg application. Window will appear
  3. Drag WalkMe application into Applications folder
  4. Drag .dmg disk to Trash can to eject it
  5. Open Applications folder on Mac
  6. Double-Click WalkMe application
  7. Continue to Create an Editor Account

2. Create an Editor Account

For paying customers, contact you WalkMe Administrator or Customer Success Manager to get login credentials. If you are a new user or trial user follow the steps below to create a new user account.
  1. Double-click WalkMe application on computer
  2. Click Don’t have an account?
  3. Type email address
  4. Type Password
  5. Click Sign In button
  6. Continue to Installing the WalkMe Extension
New accounts created are locked by default with a limited number of Smart Walk-Thru Steps and features. If you would like to upgrade your account, please contact sales@walkme.com or your Customer Success Manager (CSM ) if you are an existing customer
 
For WalkMe Administrators, if you are contacted to generate an account you can manage user roles and create new user accounts in User Management.
 

3. Installing the WalkMe Extension

The WalkMe Extension connects your selected browser with the WalkMe Editor desktop application. This allows you to select elements on your site when building Smart Walk-Thrus, SmartTips or other WalkMe apps.
 
When logging into the Editor for the first time, a pop-up will help you install the Extension.
  1. Double-click WalkMe Editor application to open it
  2. Login to WalkMe Editor. A pop-up will appear
  3. From pop-up, select your preferred browser type
  4. Click Add Extension button. Your browser will navigate to extension download page
  5. From your browser, click Add Extension
  6. If a pop-up appears, click Add Extension to confirm
  7. Done! You may now start using the Editor with the browser

3B. Downloading the WalkMe Extension from Settings Menu

If the pop-up does not appear, access the extension from the Settings Menu
  1. Double-click WalkMe Editor application to open it
  2. Login to WalkMe Editor
  3. Click Settings from Admin bar
  4. Click User Preferences
  5. From Connect Browser, select the extension for your desired browser. Browser will navigate to the extension download page
  6. From your browser, click Add Extension
  7. If a pop-up appears, click Add Extension to confirm
  8. Done! You may now start using the Editor with the browser
