WalkMe(X): Getting Started Guide

Last Updated June 4, 2025

Brief Overview

WalkMe(X) is WalkMe's contextual AI assistance solution that brings intelligent, in-flow support to users across any web application. This guide gives you an overview of WalkMeX's main capabilities, split into Always-On and On-Demand packages, so you can quickly understand what's available and when to use each.

Always-On Capabilities

Always-On AI provides proactive support embedded directly in user workflows. These features surface based on user behavior, system context, and organizational rules—without needing users to ask for help.

Action Bar

The Action Bar is an expanding widget that delivers proactive, in-the-flow assistance. It opens into a panel that offers a wide range of pre-built and custom AI-driven actions to support users exactly when they need it.

  • Generate content and receive real-time reading and writing assistance

  • Display condition-based workflow suggestions like phishing alerts or policy reminders

  • Provide consistent access to AI-powered tools across apps

Introduction to Action Bar

AI SmartTips

AI SmartTips validate and improve text input in open form fields using custom logic and generative AI. They suggest real-time improvements to guide users toward compliant or complete responses.

  • Validate CRM entries or performance review text for quality and completeness

  • Reduce friction and rework by helping users get it right the first time

  • Automatically suggest improvements when inputs don't meet validation criteria

AI Conditions

AI Conditions are natural-language operators added to the Condition Builder. They allow builders to trigger WalkMe content based on text meaning or tone (For example, "sentiment is inappropriate") rather than exact-match logic.

  • Trigger alerts when users write problematic or non-compliant content

  • Define nuanced logic that adapts based on context rather than hardcoded rules

On-Demand Capabilities

These AI features are launched by the user using an AI-powered conversational search experience, providing context, next steps, and the ability to ask follow-up questions directly in the flow of work.

AI Chat (Unified Chat)

AI Chat is a conversational interface that routes questions or requests to the most relevant AI chat bot (Company AI, Public AI, or ActionBot). Users can interact through a Unified Chat experience—which blends all AI sources into a single conversation—or switch to Independent Chat mode to engage directly with a specific AI bot.

Included Capabilities:

  • AI Answers: Retrieves responses from an organization's internal knowledge sources. Referred as Company AI in the chat

  • Public AI: Handles open-ended queries using external LLMs

  • Text to Action: Users write write a request, and AI Chat suggests direct actions—like launching a WalkMe flow, triggering an ActionBot, or opening a tool

  • AI in ActionBot: Supports dynamic, multi-step ActionBot conversations to complete structured tasks
