Learning Paths for AI Roles

Important Note

This article covers recommended learning paths for three COE roles that support WalkMe's AI and WalkMe Learning Arc capabilities: AI SME, Innovation Expert, and Content Author (WalkMe Learning Arc).

Brief Overview

As WalkMe AI and Learning capabilities become central to digital adoption programs, organizations need team members skilled in building, governing, and scaling both AI features and in-app learning content. This article covers learning paths for three specialized roles within the COE:

  • AI SME — provides subject matter expertise, requirements, and approvals for AI-powered WalkMe content
  • Innovation Expert — drives the AI roadmap and adoption of emerging WalkMe features within the COE
  • Content Author — creates and maintains learning content for departments and projects using WalkMe Learning Arc

Getting Started

To get started, ensure you have the access and tools needed to begin the learning path. Complete the following steps:

1. Notify your DAP Admin

Your DAP Admin will create a WalkMe account associated with your email address and set your permissions based on your role. You will receive a Welcome email to activate your account.

2. Download the WalkMe Editor

The Editor is the main tool used to build and manage AI SmartTips and AI Launchers. Recommended for AI SMEs involved in prompt review or content approval. Click here to download

Note

The Editor is required for AI SMEs with Builder responsibilities, and recommended (but optional) for those in a review or approval role only.

3. Sign up for the Digital Adoption Institute

The Digital Adoption Institute (DAI) is your key to self-paced training and certification. All you need is an active WalkMe Editor account.

  • After signing into your WalkMe Editor, access the Community using your Editor credentials. Once you've logged into the Community, you should be able to access the DAI.
  • If you're having issues accessing the DAI, please email training@walkme.com for additional guidance.

4. Bookmark key sites

Learning Paths by Role

To have the highest chance at excelling, WalkMe recommends completing the following courses in the order listed for each role. 

Tip

Are you one person with multiple roles on a Digital Adoption Team?

If your role includes any Building responsibility, it is recommended to start with the Builder enablement path. Also notice - all paths start the same with WalkMe Fundamentals.

AI SME (Subject Matter Expert)

The AI SME provides process expertise, requirements, and approvals for AI-powered WalkMe content. They are the bridge between the business and the build team — ensuring that AI SmartTips, AI Answers, and Joule Actions are grounded in accurate, up-to-date company knowledge and policies.

Content Author

The Content Author creates and maintains learning content for departments and projects using WalkMe Learning Arc.
